Offered in the Dancing Mud Studio, Santa Fe, NM
February 21-23 and March 1-2, 2014
Sorry, this workshop is filled. Let me know if you want to be notified when I do it again!
Join me for an exploration of non‐traditional methods to make
contemporary free‐standing sculpture or wall pieces. We will experiment with ideas of fired and unfired works, using paperclay slip, dipping or painting the slip over various kinds of framework, such as wire, sticks, doilies, string, wood, and metal mesh. The framework may become part of the design or, when burned‐out, provide structure for the shape. We will also explore adding inclusions to the clay and forming in molds. Inclusions can be studio floor sweepings, fired clay pieces, metal shapes, feed‐store finds, fiber, wood, etc. We will explore alternative ways to surface the works, fired or unfired, color or neutral, adding mixed media.
I will guide this experience and providing materials, firing, and ideas. Come to play, experiment, develop a specific idea or try different ideas. You can discuss your idea in advance, or explore with me during the first weekend. I’ll send you references to investigate and suggestions of additional materials to bring prior to the first weekend.
There will be up to 4 people plus myself.
We will meet two weekends:
February 21‐23, 2014 to make works. March 1‐2 to fire and finish.
We will start at 9:30 am and stop about 4:30 or when we run out of steam.
Additional hours can be arranged if needed.
The cost is $175. This includes tools, materials, and firing or surfacing.
Location: My studio, 23 Immanuel, Santa Fe
in highway 285 corridor (across from El Dorado).
